The U.S. Bank Visa is accepted by over 15 million merchants in 220 countries, a far greater coverage than Diners Club or American Express. Many fast-food restaurants and taxi services now accept Visa, as well.
Additionally, the Travel and Entertainment (T & E) Card offers the following benefits to University travelers:
- Worldwide acceptance.
- Online account access.
- Cash advances from over 300,000 ATMs worldwide.
- Travel accident and lost luggage insurance.
- Interface with the UCLA Express reimbursement system.
T & E Card charges submitted through Express are paid directly to U.S. Bank, eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for the traveler. Certain travel-related expenses such as hotel deposits and conference registrations can even be reimbursed in advance of the trip if purchased with the T & E Card and processed through Express.
The T & E Card program offers Special Purpose Accounts for diverse departmental needs, including special events (such as conferences and meeting planning) and recruitment. These special accounts provide convenience, control and data to meeting planners and to those arranging travel for non-University employees.
UC Merced receives a summary of all business travel and entertainment related charges made on UC Merced T & E Cards. This information can assist travelers in realizing additional cost savings by allowing UC Merced to negotiate more favorable rates with hotels and other travel suppliers used by those on business travel for UC Merced. UC Merced's significant purchasing power offers great cost savings opportunities that accrue directly to the traveler's fund source.
