American Airlines Phishing Emails Update: January 27, 2012

American Airlines is aware of a fraudulent email customers are receiving claiming to be from American Airlines. The email was not sent by American Airlines.

If you receive any suspicious emails from American Airlines please do NOT click on any of the web address links, open any attachments, call phone numbers listed, or follow any instructions in the fraudulent email. Instead, delete all email and attachments.

Key indications that the email is fraudulent:

  • If the email asks to perform security-related changes to an American Airlines account
  • Attempt to collect user name, password, email addresses or other personal information.

American Airlines will never send executable files as attachments, nor ask customers for this type of personal information in email communications.

If an AAdvantage member has clicked on any of the links in a fraudulent email, please take these steps:

  • Login to AA.com by entering www.aa.com manually
  • Verify your mileage balance, email address, and physical address
  • Immediately change your password to help protect your account information

If there are any questions or concerns please contact AAdvantage Services Department at 1-800-882-8880.  In most cases, attempts to obtain personal information begins with an unauthorized change of the victim's password, preventing the true account owner from logging in.

For further information regarding protection from fraudulent email and/or to view examples of emails that are being sent, please visit:

American Airlines Stock Delisting

As you may be aware, American Airlines (AA) parent AMR Corp. will be delisted by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Jan. 5, an expected consequence of the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing last November.

"NYSE advised AMR that it is taking these steps because the average closing price of AMR's common stock fell below the NYSE's continued listing minimum share price standard of $1 over a consecutive 30-trading-day period," AA said in a statement.

Such delistings are not uncommon during bankruptcy filings. The New York Stock Exchange requires stock prices to remain above $1 per share; if a company's price falls below that level for more than 30 days, it is delisted.

During most Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, stock prices tend to fall dramatically, leading to delisting; the airline industry saw this happen during Delta Air Lines' and Northwest's bankruptcies. Once the airline reorganizes post-Chapter 11--which can take anywhere from 10 to 24 months--they usually relist with a new starting stock price.

The delisting has absolutely no impact to AA's operations, services or client contracting.  AA is continuing to do business as usual and we do not expect any significant changes as a result of the delisting or their bankruptcy filing.
