TRAVEL ALERT: FAA Domestic Flight Schedule Reductions

November 6, 2025

FAA reports list of airports that will reduce flights from November 7, 2025 during the government shutdown.

Due to the prolonged government shutdown, the FAA has directed all airlines to reduce domestic flight schedules at certain airports starting Friday, Nov. 7. These cuts could affect as many as 1,800 flights, or upwards of 268,000 passengers, per day.

At this time there is no need for travelers to take any immediate action until the FAA determines exactly which flights will be impacted. In the meantime, airlines are releasing their exceptions for cancellations and/or refunds, and their policies vary however we anticipate they will offer immediate rebooking options for all impacted travelers.

Travelers will be notified directly if cancellations occur, however, we encourage travelers to check on their flight status using the airline mobile apps or websites and enable notifications on their trip for real-time updates. Additionally, travelers should download and check the TSA app for security wait times at their airports to ensure they plan for enough time before their departures.

Those who no longer wish to travel should contact the UC-preferred agency that booked the initial ticket to review their options but should be prepared for long hold times as call volumes from affected travelers may be high. UC-preferred agencies include Anthony Travel, Balboa Travel, BCD Travel and UCLA Travel Center.
