Governor Ends Restrictions on State-Funded Travel

October 6, 2023

California has rescinded restrictions on government-funded travel to states that enacted anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. The change, cited by UCOP, applies to university-related travel at UC Merced and other UC campuses.

Gov. Newsom on Sept. 13 signed state Senate Bill 447, which ended immediately the seven-year-old travel restrictions under Assembly Bill 1887. In an announcement, Newsom’s office said SB 447, sponsored by state Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, also creates a public awareness project that will consult with community leaders to promote California’s values of acceptance and inclusion. Sen. Atkins refers to it as the Bridge Project.
